My Lips and Eyes Made Me Wise

“For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.”

-Audrey Hepburn

Growing up in middle school, sometimes elementary school, I remember being teased.

I was teased for my lips being too big, I remember boys saying inappropriate things to me in regards to my lips.

I remember getting into countless of altercations on the bus because someone made yet another comment about my lips

I remember rushing off the bus to hide my tears from embarrassment.

In middle and sometimes elementary again, I was teased for having big eyes too.

I remember being teased for my big eyes too, it was so weird because in the books I read, the women who had big almond shaped eyes adored their eyes and so did the people in their world – but in my world, I was told different and I couldn’t understand why.

After learning to appreciate me, love myself and adore myself. I began to appreciate my eyes and lips, I began to block out what the world was telling me and started to listen to what God was telling me.

My almond shaped eyes were created to see the vision that God has given me- to birth things to me that this world needed

My eyes were different and that is okay, God made me that way and he made no mistakes.

My lips were created to speak. To speak the truth, to uplift, to challenge, to motivate and encourage anyone that came across my path.

My lips were created to brings others together, speak words of encouragement and peace.

Has it always been like this? NO!

Do I get it right ALL the time? NOT AT ALL.

BUT what I have learned was to embrace my eyes and lips, more importantly, I learned to pay attention to the things that people criticized me for.

The things that I was teased about are the things that I enjoy the most.

My eyes vision the places I will go, the people I will meet, the things I will accomplish.

My eyes vision my outfits, my hair, my lipsticks.

My lips curve into a smile that brightens up a room, my lips pray prayers that help birth my vision and empower those who I encounter.

I have learned when to speak up and when to shut up! I have learned to appreciate the power of my words and the power of my silence as well.

So I encourage you, ladies and gentlemen, to embrace those features that the world may not approve of and seek God to see if that is where your purpose will be birthed!

I learned that I was not the character in my books, everything in life was bigger than what others thought of my looks.

I learned to embrace everything about me, fulfill the vision God gave me, and to stand tall after each fall.

Those moments of cries lead to me watering the blessings of becoming wise.

Will it be easy? NO!

Will it be worth it? Absolutely YES!

Know that: God created you for a reason- seek him and he will reveal why you were created.

God continuously covers you in any and every aspect of life- being teased allowed me to develop a thick skin and allowed me to appreciate myself first and foremost.

God will carry you throughout life’s trials and tribulations- Life will get hard and that is okay, God carries us when we feel as though we cant go any further.

God will crown you- after being teased for so long-I learned to appreciate my lips, eyes and everything that makes me beautiful (that’s my crowning moment and I own it).

Stay Crowned Kings and Queens, God Got US!

“Makeup is about balance. When the eye makes a statement, the lips should be quiet.”

-Francois Nars
