This is the time of year I begin to plan my vegetable garden. Soon will be planting season. For the last few years my garden has been taken over and choked out by morning glories.
Morning Glories – Weeds disguised as beautiful flowers.
They are hardy. They are tenacious. They are opportunistic. They will choke out every plant in your garden. They are nearly impossible to remove.
Jesus often used “gardening” analogies in reference to our lives and how we are supposed to live. He said we are supposed to produce. He said, not only are we suppose to produce, but we are supposed to produce good fruit. He said we need to be careful that our fruit doesn’t get choked or crowded out (Reference Mark 4:19).
The things that usually bind us, are things that seem “pretty.” The promise of something we think we want, only things are not always what they seem.
We are warned in the Scripture: “But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” (2 Corinthians 11:14, NLT)
Father God, please help me to be careful. Please help me to be able to discern. Please help me to not be choked out by the worries of this life, or the lure of riches, or the desire for other things that are contrary to what you want for me. Weed out every weed that would crowd out what is good in me. I want to produce good fruit, and I want others to be able to see it in me. Make me always aware of every thing that would try to bind me so that I can quickly make my escape.
