Psalm 32:1-5 (NLT) Oh, what joy for those whose disobedience is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of guilt, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide my guilt. I said to myself, “I will confess my rebellion to the LORD.” And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude
It is in our [human] nature to hide. We don’t want to admit that we have faults. We don’t like to take responsibility for the things that we have done wrong. We don’t want to be wrong. Sometimes we even try to lie to ourselves about the issues we are having. We try to cover our sins and pretend that they never happened.
Sometimes we overcomplicate things. God simply wants us to come before Him in honesty. He wants us to trust Him with our issues. He wants us to be real; to stop the pretending. When you can be real in front of Him, and stop hiding, and confess that you have messed up; it is then that He can begin to work with you, and in you. He has promised that if we would confess our sins, if we would ask for His forgiveness, then He will forgive us, take away our guilt, and He will clean us up.
1 John 1:9 (NLT) But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
I urge you to check your heart. Evaluate your life. Are you hiding? Are you playing pretend? Are there some things that you need to confess to God? He will forgive, if only you will ask.
